Genus Xiphophorus
— Pearly albino – main coloration is golden-yellow with a sheen. In males, the head, front of the back, and chest are pink. The eye cornea is silvery;
— Yellow – main coloration is yellow, without dark spots. Fins are clean, lemon-colored; — Red-finned yellow – body coloration is yellow. Dorsal and anal fins are red. Caudal fin is yellow with a whitish border at the bottom. Sometimes individuals with a black pattern at the base of the caudal fin are found (in some, the spot resembles a crescent);
— Mirror – body is white with a pearly sheen. Fins are transparent. A whitish stripe runs along the lower part of the caudal fin. They are distinguished by grace, and most of them are scaleless;
— Tassel-tailed – the middle rays of the caudal fin in both sexes are elongated, making the fin look like a brush. In the best specimens, the width of this brush equals the width of the caudal fin base. Its rear edge is even. The rest of the fins are ordinary, unchanged;
— Comet (Komet) – orange-yellow coloration. Dorsal fin is red with a black border. Ventral and anal fins are blue with whitish rays. Caudal fin with a bluish tint, upper and lower rays are black;
— Calico (Kaliko) – main coloration is red. The body, mostly the front part, is covered with black speckles. The base of the caudal fin and partly the tail are black. Rays of the dorsal fin are almost black;
— Red (ruby) – main coloration is dark red with a gray tint on the back. Belly is whitish. Anal and ventral fins are white, the rest are red. This variety served as the source material for breeding red swordtails. Very popular are the very beautiful varieties with a milk-white border on the fins;
Identification: Southern platyfish — Xiphophorus maculatus-3.
— Bleeding heart – main coloration is golden-yellow, the base of the caudal fin is white-pink. The lower front part of the body is colored scarlet. The back and dorsal fin are covered with red dots. This coloration is stable for both sexes;
— Marbled – perpendicular red stripes of varying width and color intensity run along the body. Black spots are located at the base of the tail. Individuals with black fins occur. This color variety is very rare due to its instability. White and yellow fry often appear in the offspring of two marbled parents.
— Flame-tailed (radish) – the middle rays of the caudal fin in both sexes are elongated and form a peculiar outgrowth with a blunt end. The length of these rays is not less than the length of the caudal fin in its middle, the width is at least 0.5 cm. The rest of the fin is rounded, unchanged;
— Spotted (leopard) – main coloration is yellow or red. Belly is white with a green sheen. At the base of the caudal fin is a black spot. The body is covered with small black spots, and the fins have black dots. Lower rays of the caudal fin with a greenish border;
— Dotted – body is blue with black dots;
— Tricolor (mutant form) – individuals with orange and bright red pigmentation are very rare. Red markings in tricolor platyfish, according to breeders’ intentions, should be velvety crimson-red;
— Black – colored black with a golden, greenish, or bluish sheen. Attempts to obtain a fish with a velvet-black matte coloration have not yet been successful, but in individual cases, experienced hobbyists have been close to the goal. The fins of the black platyfish are colorless, transparent, occasionally specimens with incompletely pigmented fins are found. Fry become black by one and a half to two months, sometimes later;
— Black-marbled butterfly – is a varying form of black-marbled platyfish. Unlike the first breeding forms of marbled platyfish, they have black fins, and white spots are scattered over the black background. Unlike the light-marbled form, it is mainly black with white spots. Among marbled butterflies, red marbled butterflies are found, exclusively females;
— Black-finned – body coloration is yellow or red, fins are black. Scales on the back have a black border;
Identification: Southern platyfish — Xiphophorus maculatus-4.
— Scarf (high-finned) – dorsal fin is long, fan-shaped. The width of its upper part is 2-3 times greater than the width of the base. In a calm fish, it reaches the middle of the caudal fin and sometimes extends beyond it;
— Tuxedo – a wide black stripe runs along the middle of the body, shifted slightly downward toward the belly. Main coloration is yellow or red. Fins, depending on the main coloration, are pure yellow or red;
Xiphophorus alvarezi, andersi, birchmanni, clemenciae, cortezi, evelynae.
