JBL Algol. Combats algae in freshwater aquariums very effectively. Shake well for 1 minute before use. Pour the required
amount of the product into the water flow. A reliable remedy for green, brown, filamentous, floating, and spot algae. Initially causing slight cloudiness, it shows its effect after a few days. The effect lasts for 2-6 weeks after application. Treatment with the product can be repeated if necessary after 2 weeks using a half dose. Caution: Frequent treatment of aquarium water may harm sensitive plants! During treatment of the aquarium water with the product, sufficient oxygen content must be ensured via aeration and water circulation. Do not filter water through carbon! Contains no copper. Safe for fish. The effect of the product appears only after a few days, but plants are not harmed in the process. Dosage: 100 ml of product per 400 liters of aquarium water.
JBL PhosEx rapid. Within a few hours, the product removes phosphates (PO4), which are an important nutrient for algae. Phosphates are bound by the product and thereby filtered out of the water by the filter. Has no harmful side effects. Intended for use only in freshwater aquariums.
Professional Algae Killer. Algae control using (2.5% glutaraldehyde). It not only does not inhibit the growth of higher aquatic plants, but on the contrary, stimulates them by
providing a dose of carbon, replacing carbon dioxide. When properly dosed, it helps get rid of all algae even in severe cases, without harmful consequences for most higher plants, fish, invertebrates, and without harming biological filtration either. Application of the product does not affect the pH of the water in the aquarium. Suitable both for long-term use in a general aquarium and for a single pre-quarantine treatment of plants against algae, snails and their eggs, or disease pathogens. The product breaks down by 50% in the aquarium within 12 hours and disappears completely after two days.
Practical application: Administer every morning when the lights are turned on, pre-diluting the dose in a liter of water and stirring vigorously when pouring to avoid burning fish and plants. Large doses are best divided into 2 parts and administered twice. For disinfection of newly acquired plants and cleaning them from snails and their clutches: dose 1-3 ml per 1 liter of water, rinse for 3-5 minutes. Don’t forget to wear gloves! Preventive dose: daily 5 ml per 100 liters of water prevents the development and appearance of new algae. Also serves as a carbon dose for plants in cichlid tanks. Recommended dose: daily 12-15 ml per 100 liters for 6-10 days. Most algae die. The dose can be used for a long time. Water change up to 50% and substrate vacuuming after 1-3 days. Delicate fish species are best removed. Enhanced aeration. Recommended maximum dose: daily 20 ml per 100 liters of water for 5-7 days. Most algae die. Some fish may show mild signs of oxygen starvation within 3-5 hours after product application. Therefore, it is better to give 50% of the dose in the morning, and the rest fractionally 2-3 times during the day.
HS Aqua Cupracell. Can be used in freshwater aquariums to reduce filamentous algae, at low concentrations of nitrates, nitrites, ammonium, and phosphates in the water. First dose – 10 ml per 50 liters of water. Repeat every 3 days with a half dose until algae begin to die or bleach. Under the influence of the product, filamentous algae die quickly, which can cause oxygen deficiency. Manually remove as much algae as possible. Strong aquarium aeration is required throughout the entire treatment period. Warning! Cupracell contains copper. Must not be used in water bodies with catfish, snails, crayfish, shrimp, and amphibians. May cause the death of these animals.
Cidex Activated Glutaraldehyde. Cidex. A universal, highly effective disinfectant for algae eradication. Along with Cidex, an “activator” powder
is included in the kit, which is not used. Before application, clean the aquarium, vacuum the substrate, and perform a water change. Cidex kills algae cells (but not plants), making it the most effective and safest algaecide for the aquarium. Dosage: When using high doses of Cidex, it is advisable to increase aeration. Cidex is hazardous to fish only in case of overdose, due to a sharp drop in O2 concentration or exceeding the toxicity limit for the given species. Application scheme. The optimal dosage for long-term use is 12-15 ml of Cidex daily per 100 liters of aquarium water. The maximum dose – 20 ml per 100 liters – may be needed for particularly heavy infestations. Daily application of 5 ml per 100 liters does not lead to noticeable death of algae living in the aquarium in large quantities. This dose can only be used as a preventive measure. With daily application of 12 ml per 100 liters for 7-10 days, green algae disappear.
Aquarium glass is practically free of overgrowth if there are no blue-green algae. The fish are fine. Long-term use of such dosage is possible. With daily application of 20 ml per 100 liters for 5-7 days, all algae die except bright green and black blue-green algae. Black beard algae changed color from black to shades of gray. Some fish begin to show mild signs of poisoning within 3-5 hours after application. Invertebrates are fine. With daily application of 30 ml per 100 liters, all algae die without a trace in three days. Ancistrus may die, fish show clear signs of oxygen starvation, even with powerful aeration.
HDL’s Non-Bleach Bleach. Disinfectant. All aquarists know that one of the best disinfectants is chlorine. But its use in aquarium keeping is extremely limited due to toxicity to fish; after treatment, equipment and plants must be rinsed very thoroughly several times. The new Non-Bleach Bleach disinfectant will do this without the danger of poisoning fish, as it contains no chlorine. This substance belongs to super-oxidants, which are known to be the most effective disinfectants. It attacks organics 3,600 times faster than liquid chlorine.
Zoomir Aquastop. Designed to combat blue-green algae. Its action is based on lowering the pH of the water in the aquarium, i.e., creating conditions unfavorable for
the existence of blue-green algae. When properly dosed, it is safe for fish. However, even with the gradual introduction of the product into the aquarium, the pH value changes relatively sharply, which often causes sickly conditions in aquarium inhabitants. To prevent this side effect, inhabitants can be moved to another aquarium during treatment. Before treatment, clean accessible aquarium surfaces from blue-green algae using a scraper or sponge. Clean the aquarium water from the suspended matter of these algae as much as possible using an aquarium filter with suitable filter material. Then determine the water volume in the aquarium, taking into account the volume occupied by substrate, plants, decor, and equipment, and calculate the required amount of product (5 ml of product per 10 liters of water). Dilute the required amount of product with fresh settled water in a 300 ml glass container.
Gradually pour the prepared solution into the aquarium while stirring the water gently. Turn off the aquarium lighting. After 1-2 days, perform a 2-3 times water change and replace the filter materials in the aquarium filter. Eliminate the causes of active algae proliferation: overly intense lighting, excess mineral (nitrogen-containing) compounds, low redox potential, excess fertilizers applied, insufficient plant quantity. If necessary, the aquarium treatment procedure can be repeated after some time.
Bleach or chlorine. This is a quarantine plant treatment at a ratio of 1 to 20 with water. Take a container, add bleach solution (Belizna). Place plants in the vessel. Exposure time: 2 minutes for delicate plants, 3 minutes for broad-leaved plants, 4 minutes for Anubias, Java moss, Echinodorus, Cryptocoryne. Remove remnants of dead algae from leaves by rubbing them between your fingers. Afterwards, rinse plants under running water and place in a container with a large amount of a dechlorinator (e.g., sodium thiosulfate). This method helps completely clean Anubias even if the leaf surface is completely covered with algae. This is a rather harsh method, but very effective. It should be used with caution. Plant sensitivity to such treatment varies.
Copper sulfate. Do not add copper to the aquarium! It can only be used in a separate container, and after treatment, plants must be thoroughly rinsed several times. It is extremely toxic and poorly removed from plants and the aquarium! Copper will clear not only algae, snail eggs, but also all kinds of glass worms, fish parasites and their vectors, snails, harmful bugs eating holes in leaves, fungi. Treat plants before planting in the aquarium by keeping them in a vessel with 0.2 mg/l copper sulfate for several hours, stirring well from time to time. Longer exposure of plants to copper can lead to their death, especially demanding species.
Cleaning Anubias sp. and other plants with red ramshorn snails. This is a magnificent method! Place the bush in a separate container with hungry red ramshorn snails (Planorbis). Snails clean even old black beard or brush algae firmly embedded in the surface off old Anubias leaves within a week, leaving an absolutely clean leaf surface! They also wonderfully clean algae growing on Anubias as a thick, velvety, very dense layer of bright green algae.
